Meet Nwabueze Phil-Ebosie: 2024 Chicago Defender Men of Excellence Honoree

In his nearly two-decade tenure at ComEd, Nwabueze Phil-Ebosie, also known as Eze, has become a cornerstone of innovation and leadership in the field of electrical engineering. 

As the current Director of Engineering, Phil-Ebosie oversees the modernization of the electric grid, ensuring that the people of Northern Illinois receive reliable electric service. His journey at ComEd has been marked by a series of leadership and technical roles, each contributing to the company’s mission of excellence.

His professional track record and tireless dedication to mentorship is why Phil-Ebosie was selected as a 2024 Chicago Men of Excellence honoree.

“I appreciate the recognition from my peers for my dedication and hard work in my field,” said Phil-Ebosie. “This honor gives me validation for my sacrifices and perseverance. It truly keeps me motivated to keep going.”

Phil-Ebosie’s influence extends beyond his professional achievements. An active member of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and various other industry groups, he is a recognized leader known for implementing transformative changes in the departments he has led. His commitment to the engineering community is unwavering, and his contributions are widely acknowledged.

One of Phil-Ebosie’s most profound passions is mentoring youth in STEM programs. Residing on the South Side, he dedicates significant time to volunteering and uplifting his community. 

“I am extremely passionate about the development of the next generation of Black engineers,” he explains. 

His efforts to guide and inspire young minds are a testament to his dedication to fostering future talent in engineering.

Phil-Ebosie’s academic credentials are as impressive as his professional accomplishments. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, along with executive professional certifications from Yale and UC Berkeley. His educational background laid a strong foundation for his successful career, driven by a family tradition of STEM excellence.

Phil-Ebosie’s “Why” is deeply rooted in his family history and personal experiences. 

“I come from a family of STEM professionals and saw how hard they worked to be in their respective fields and make an impact. At an early age, I was shown the value of hard work and dedication. Because of these role models in my life, I have been inspired to have an impact in my own way.”
