Attorney Alex Shumate to pen foreword for 18th edition Who’s Who In Black Columbus  

Who’s Who in Black Columbus 18th edition set for Nov. 21st reveal 

 Squire Patton Boggs Senior Partner and attorney, Alex Shumate will pen the foreword for the upcoming 18th edition of Who’s Who In Black Columbus. This edition’s networking reception and book reveal will be held on Nov. 21, 2024, at The Ohio State University’s Archie Griffin Ballroom.  

“For more than three decades, Who’s Who In Black has been at the forefront of elevating Black culture, Black achievement and Black people in America,” says Shumate. “I am honored to be the author of the foreword for the 18th edition of Who’s Who In Black Columbus, recognizing and celebrating Black Excellence. I hope this edition’s stories will inspire and encourage everyone to help show our young people ‘They Can Be What They Can See’ right here in the great city of Columbus, Ohio.” 

Shumate is consistently selected for inclusion in the annual Best Lawyers in America and in Ohio Super Lawyers. He has a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rating, meaning that he is ranked at the highest level of professional excellence for his legal expertise, communication skills and ethical standards.  

Shumate is the Lead Independent Director of The JM Smucker Company, Founding Director of Adelphi Bank and Board Chair of The Columbus CEO Collective. Previously he served on the boards for Nationwide Financial Services and Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company. He served twice as The Ohio State University Board Chair and was Chief Counsel and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Ohio Governor. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including Who’s Who In Black Columbus’ Lifetime Achievement. Shumate received his BA from Ohio Wesleyan University and JD from the University of Akron. He lives in Columbus with his wife Renée and has two sons, John and Aaron.
